When installing any older games on a computer there are almsot always issues with compatibility. This is becuase they are usually designed for different, and older, operating systems. New games such as
Swtor should work easily, but when doing something older, say
Star Wars Battlefront there can often be many issues with compatibility.
I will assume that the user is doing everything on windows 7.
One step to take first if things are not working well, is to run the program as administrator. This is easy to do, just right click and click run as admin. Alternatively, if you want this to happen every time, you can go into properties and tick the box that says run as admin then it will do this automatically every time in the future.
One other important method that can make old games work is running them in an older operating system mode. This is also done by right clicking and going to preferences, then selecting a different operating system from the drop down box. The best is usually windows XP for most games, as just about everything is compatible with it.
If neither of these methods work, one can load an older operating system onto the computer, and dual boot so that you are in effect not needing to make the computer pretend it is older than it is, because youve installed software that IS older than it is.
All in all, these three techniques are pretty much guarenteed to succeed. If not, the most likely explanation is that the software or game you are trying to install is bugged. In that case, there are many news sources that can help with problems. One i have found useful in the past is the tech tips section of
Times of India epaper which often has hints as to how to get older technology to work with the newer stuff.
